Wise man say: ORD is short for ORDEAL.
Yeah, pretty much, but it beats getting up at five ayem for the direct flight to DEN.
Granted. Why AA, then? There should have been plenty of other connecting flights you could at least get usable miles on…
Let me know how the transatlantic LX flight is. I’ve been meaning to try them.
I was booking the Berlin trip at the same time and accidentally only had one search tab open when I called the travel agent – so I ended up booking what they offered. You’re right, there’s a UA flight pair that’s an hour later but $100 more. If I’d known about it I would have insisted based on Sun’s contracted airline policies. It’s not too bad though, I like trying other airlines once in a while and AA miles aren’t completely useless – you can convert them to Hilton Hhonors points at a 2:1 penalty then exchange directly for Aeroplan miles.
Oh yeah, and this booking was another “American Express Travel is useless, everyone should use Orbitz” experience. Their system didn’t offer the LX/LH combination (which fits my schedule better than any other flight pair without being more expensive) but knowing it was available, I fed him the flight numbers and he managed to book it. He was surprised it was even possible to ticket :)
Enh, AA is perfectly fine, really. Nothing special, comparable service to United. I use them sometimes, but infrequently. (Interestingly, I once had a United flight cancelled due to mechanical problems, and they re-routed me onto an AA flight because all UA flights were full due to weather, and I actually got full aeroplan points for the leg flown on AA. I was stunned that they got it right.)
AA occupies the nicer part of ORD, too, if you ask me. (Notwithstanding UA’s groovy space tunnel.)
