Do you miss the fringe already? Wondering how to find out about theatre in Montréal during the rest of the year?
The best listing I know of is the QDF Theatre Calendar. It’s available on their website (as PDF, sadly), they’ll mail you a copy if you become a “friend”, or you can find copies lying around theatres like MainLine.
Anyone have any other good resources? Anything I should sign up for? “Check XXX theatre’s schedule on their website” doesn’t work for me, unfortunately.
My only strategy is to show up to Sunday Night Improv at Theatre Ste Catherine (8pm most Sundays, though I haven’t been in a while so I dunno for sure if it’s still on the go) and see what flyers are around. This gets you theatre that’s slightly more elaborate than a Fringe show (typically a larger cast), but still feels a bit Fringey, and is a bit hard to find out about otherwise. Legend of the Barbarian was great last year, for instance.
mainline has a mailing list, thought it’s somewhat sporadic
OK… they also have a FaceBook group, which is unfortunately useless. I think the last show I got email about was Hedda Gabler.
I’m going to see “La charge de l’orignal épormyable” (technically this season, in reality next year) at TNM. By one of my favorite québécois author, and probably like everything he writes, it’s gonna be a mindfuck. Plus i always wanted to see that one.
